Small Area - BIG Outdoor Living Space

Project Overview

The homeowners of this newly constructed home wanted to create a unique outdoor space for their family. A large patio space was required for entertaining as well as an outdoor kitchen area. They also wanted to create a focal point in the backyard.

The Challenge

The major hurdle of this project was the lack of space. The property was small with limited access to the rear yard. Within this space we needed to fit a 16’x20’ pergola, custom spa, outdoor kitchen, areas for dining and conversation. We also had a slight elevation change on the property to contend with along with the need to keep the backyard private.

The Results

The end result was a unique backyard with two levels. The lower level along the rear of the property line was where we installed the focal point. It was a 4-foot-tall granite wall with a water fall that spilled into a spa that was recessed into the patio in front of the wall. A white stained cedar pergola stood over the spa to provide shade and structure to the yard. On the upper level, we installed a larger patio for dining. Next to the patio we designed a large kitchen and bar area that included Twin Eagles appliances throughout. To create privacy, we added an arborvitae hedge and installed many other trees, shrubs and perennials to create an inviting area. At night, the area is illuminated with LED low voltage lighting throughout, creating a unique and inviting space.
