A Private "Staycation"

Project Overview

Gallivan Corporation was hired to design a plan for an outdoor living area that included a pool, outdoor kitchen and extensive screening with plantings for privacy.

The Challenge

The major challenge of this project was the lack of privacy.

The Results

The end result was a beautiful, private backyard pool and entertaining area. To accomplish the homeowners’ request for privacy, earthen berms were created along the property line using excavated material from the pool area. This technique raised the elevation in the key areas where privacy was an issue. The berms were then planted with mixed evergreens, flowering trees, shrubs and perennials to further assist with the privacy issue. The pool design was unique with a sun shelf on the shallow end, curved side walls and a spill over spa on the deep end. We also incorporated a large gas fire pit into the space with a seat bench that was carved in the berm. Two steps up from the pool/patio area is the outdoor kitchen and dining space that includes a 42″ twin eagles grill with all the bells and whistles. A sink, refrigerator, ice maker and various storage areas were also added for convenience. LED landscape lighting was installed for illumination including up lighting on trees and pathway lights to help guide you through the space. Seat walls and steps were equipped with lighting to illuminate the wall and transition areas. Post lights were also added for those occasions when more light was needed.
