Three Reasons to Hard Prune Your Trees

Gallivan Corporation - Tuesday, November 29, 2016

As trees become overgrown they can cause safety hazards while damaging their own health in the process. To avoid this, we recommend that trees and shrubs are hard pruned in the early winter months.

Below are three reasons why your trees and shrubs should be hard pruned, they include:

  1. Health of the Tree – By removing branches that are dead or dying, further decay of the tree can be prevented. It will also increase sun exposure and air circulation throughout the tree and underlying landscape, further improving the tree’s health.
  2. Appearance - Pruning will improve the overall appearance of a tree or shrub that is starting to appear overgrown. Your overall property will look more open and your view will be improved by getting rid of overgrown branches, as well.
  3. Removes Hazards – Branches that are dead or dying are often dangerous, as they are weak and therefore unable to properly weather the impending winter storms. These branches can fall and damage your property creating a hazard.
